The Garden Cottage
Off to Norfolk for Easter weekend with friends. We will be staying in The Garden Cottage - a place my Mum bought a while ago. A beautiful walled garden full of nature and kept secret from the passers by.
When we first got there - nearly 15 years ago now - we had to clear out some of the vegetation that had taken over the garden. Amongst all the weeds and wildness we found a cracked stone slab, which had this etched onto it:
The kiss of the sun for pardon
The song of the bird for mirth
One is nearer to God in a garden
Than anywhere else on earth.
Apparently it’s by Dorothy Gurney. I think its quite nice.
